◊ explosive first step; good burst out of a three-point stance
◊ plays with an aggressive motor
◊ keeping hands active at the point of attack
◊ getting leverage with length
◊ pocket disruptor; ability to create pressure from the edge or rushing inside
◊ speed off the edge; he can get around outside hip of Tackles
◊ run defense; win leverage, disengage, and make a play on the ball; can set the edge and play contain
◊ high motor; relentless pursuit
– has all the traits you want in a pass rusher but technique is inconsistent and his nuance gets a little wild/out of control at times; he is much more effective playing as a Strongside Defensive End with his hand in the dirt; impactful when attacking the B-gap (OT inside shoulder)
– strong punch but inconsistent with initial strike hand placement; when he can get hands inside the tackle's frame, they are hard to displace
– doesn't bend well; has some ability to bend the edge but also often widens angle to the QB trying to beat stronger OTs with speed
– staying blocked in pass rush too long; tendency to get "bogged down" if OT gets hands inside frame and/or he gets beat to the edge; needs to be better about keeping feet active when engaged
– play strength; bull rush can easily be rendered ineffective; speed to power is inconsistent
– play recognition; more reactive than proactive

»» high floor, low-to-mid ceiling; he can definitely improve his technique and get stronger but in my overall opinion of Johnson, what you see is what you get.
