Clemson built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Louisville's charge for a 4-3 victory on Sunday. Louisville put up three runs in the failed comeback. Logan Wyatt, Drew Campbell, and Wyatt picked up RBIs to lead the rally.
This game was overshadowed by the number of walks each team allowed. Clemson gave away 11 free-90's while Louisville gave free passes to eight Tigers.
Travis Marr led the Clemson to victory on the pitcher's mound. He went one inning, allowing one run on zero hits. Carson Spiers, Ryley Gilliam, and Alex Schnell all put in work on the pitcher's mound in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Gilliam recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Clemson.
Shay Smiddy took the loss for Louisville. He went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out three.
Brooks Crawford started the game for Clemson. He allowed six hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out two.
Logan Davidson led Clemson with two hits in three at bats. Clemson was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Chris Williams went 1-for-4 on the day with two RBI and walked once.
Devin Mann went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Louisville in hits. Louisville didn't commit a single error in the field. Zach Britton had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
Clemson wins their second ACC series after this win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. The Tigers had never won a game in Louisville in their entire history. After getting swept by NC State last weekend at home, getting a series win this weekend was huge for Monte Lee and company.
Clemson improved to 18-5 on the season and 5-3 in the ACC. The Tigers will look to get the sweep of the Cardinals in game two of today's doubleheader.
