Seth Beer would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base on Tuesday, driving in five on three hits to lead Clemson past Furman 10-5 on Tuesday. He drove in runs on a single in the third and a grand slam in the fourth.
Furman scored three runs in the fifth inning, but Clemson still managed to pull out the victory.Jake Crawford and Jason Costa all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Clemson opened up scoring in the second inning, when Patrick Cromwell singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Clemson put up six runs in the fourth inning. Clemson put the pressure on, lead by a single by Sam Weatherly, a home run by Beer, and an error on a ball put in play by Jordan Greene.
Weatherly led the Clemson to victory on the pitcher's mound in the rare game where he also was his own DH, batting ninth in the Tigers lineup. He surrendered two runs on three hits over four and a third innings, striking out six. At the plate he went 1/4 and drove in one run.
Trent Alley took the loss for Furman. He allowed six hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
Clemson tallied two home runs on the day. Chris Williams had a homer in the seventh inning. Beer had a long ball in the fourth inning.
Beer went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Clemson in hits.
Furman scattered nine hits in the game. Costa, Jabari Richards, Brandon Elmy, and Crawford all managed multiple hits for Furman.
