Clemson's Bats Fall Cold Down the Stretch in Loss to Vanderbilt

CLEMSON, SC --- Clemson’s bats were hot early, yet went cold down the stretch, as the Tigers fell to Vanderbilt 4-3.

The action started right away for Clemson as Logan Davidson hit a leadoff double down the leftfield line.

The Tigers were set with runners on the corners and no outs following a Seth Beer walk and a passed ball. Chris Williams delivered with a base hit to leftfield and gave Clemson an early 1-0 lead.

Later in the inning, Drew Wharton joined the party with a base hit to score Beer.

Davidson extended the Tigers lead to 3-0 in the 2nd inning with a single to shallow center to score Sam Hall.

Highlighted by a two-run home run by Ethan Paul, Vanderbilt would respond in the bottom frame, to tie the game at 3.

Things seemed to quiet down until the bottom of the fifth when Vanderbilt to their first lead of the night, 4-3.

Their first lead would be all they would need to down the Tigers. Clemson did not score a run in the final seven frames of the ballgame.

Clemson will face St. John’s tomorrow at noon in an elimination game, with the winner taking on Vanderbilt in the double elimination bracket tomorrow night.
