Former Clemson forward, Trevor Booker, hosted his annual basketball camp in Mauldin this past week. Every year he brings in a player or two from the NBA to help coach, play with and sign autographs and take pictures with the campers.
This year's guests were Myles Turner, Indiana Pacers center, and Jawun Evans, LA Clippers guard who is originally from the Greenville area.
Being a former Clemson player, Trevor was asked what he thought about Brad Brownell's team this past season as they made their Sweet Sixteen run; and the prospects of next year's team.
"It was a fun season, it was great to watch them....I pretty much expect the same next year because they got most of the guys coming back [from the 2017 team]."
He also mentioned that he has a back-and-forth with one of the current players at Clemson in Elijah Thomas. Thomas had told him he would break some of his records at Clemson. Booker responded with, "Well, he's got a long way to go but I wish him nothing but the best."
Myles Turner, center for the Indiana Pacers, also spoke with the media about the camp and his relationship with Trevor.
He started off saying, "I love working with kids. I have a couple camps myself back home in Texas. Me and Trevor are cool man. He's had my back ever since I been in the [NBA]."
Turner mentioned that this was also his first time ever coming to South Carolina saying he just wanted to come out and experience it. "[Trevor] came out to my celebrity softball game. I've got it held in Indy so I wanted to return the favor."
Jawun Evans also came to Mauldin and helped with the camp. Evans was raised in the Greenville area and attended Southside High School his freshman year; he transferred to Legacy Charter School in Greenville his sophomore season. Later, he moved to Texas.
Evans was a McDonald's All-American in 2015 and chose to play college basketball at Oklahoma State University. He was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year for the 15-16 season despite missing more than a month with an injury.
Going into his sophomore year he was named preseason All-Big 12 and finished that season first-team all-conference and a third-team All-American by Sporting News magazine.
He is currently a member of the Los Angeles Clippers along with former South Carolina Gamecock star, Sindarius Thornwell.
