GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference once again stands with the College Football Playoff Foundation in elevating the teaching profession through its support of Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Week.
The fifth-annual Extra Yard for Teachers Week kicked off Saturday, Sept. 14, and will continue through Saturday, Sept. 21. Over these eight days, the college football community will honor teachers from grades K-12 on college campuses and in stadiums across the country.
The ACC and its 14 football member schools are joining other FBS conferences and the CFP Foundation to bring awareness to the growing Extra Yard for Teachers platform, as well as provide an opportunity for universities, coaches and student-athletes to take part in its mission of elevating the teaching profession through inspiring and empowering teachers.
ACC member institution initiatives include:
Teacher recognition during various college football games
Testimonials from coaches and student-athletes about the impact of educators
Funding of select DonorsChoose.org classroom project requests
Social media activation to engage fans and teachers
The ACC and its staff members will also make donations through DonorsChoose.org. The conference will highlight EYFT Week via social media through videos and graphics.
A number of ACC schools have planned initiatives beyond this week, and EYFT will again be heavily promoted prior to and during the ACC Football Championship Game, slated for Saturday, Dec. 7 at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium. In addition to plans with EYFT, the ACC will continue its partnership with the United Way of Central Carolinas in support of youth-education based charitable initiatives focused on improving reading proficiency and attendance.
The largest sports entity supporting education in America, the CFP Foundation encourages all to envision a country in which our greatest assets – teachers – are given the resources, recognition and professional development to help them prepare students for success. The CFP Foundation has invested approximately $30 million in support of K-12 education, supporting more than 250,000 teachers nationwide and creating a positive impact for more than six million students.
Fans are encouraged to join the social conversation by following @CFPExtraYard and using the #ExtraYardWeek hashtag. In addition, those looking to support EYFT can add a @CFPExtraYard donation sticker to their Instagram stories to help raise awareness and donations among their friends. These donations enable the CFP Foundation to continue directly funding teachers’ resources through its existing grant program with conferences and bowl game partners.
