COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team continues its homestand looking to extend its winning streak to start 2020 with a weekend series against Northwestern at Founders Park. The three-game series begins Friday afternoon (Feb. 21) at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday's games are at 2 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
All three games will be streamed on SEC Network Plus. All games also will be broadcast on The Game 107.5 FM with Derek Scott, Tommy Moody and Drew Meyer on the call. Carolina moved to 4-0 on the year with a 14-3 victory against Presbyterian on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 19). Thomas Farr struck out five in 4.2 innings, George Callil went 3-for-4 at the plate and Noah Campbell drove in four runs. PARKING INFORMATION For the fourth straight season, shuttle parking for the University of South Carolina baseball season will be operational at the Key Road Gravel Lot (1105 Key Road) and in Lot B of the Colonial Life Arena parking lot. Shuttles will begin running two hours prior to game time. We strongly recommend that fans use the baseball shuttle from Key Road to Founders Park over the CLA shuttle for the convenience, spacious parking (650 spaces) and less congestion than at the arena. Please remember that at the arena, shuttle parking will be limited to 50 spaces because of the student demand for parking in this area. There is a high student demand Monday through Thursday that lasts until 7 p.m. because of classes. Lots A and B are also reserved for men's and women's basketball parking on Feb. 22. For GPS purposes, the address for the Key Road Gravel Lot is 1105 Key Road, Columbia, SC 29201. BUSINESS LOTS DURING AFTERNOON GAMES Business lot parking passes will be honored in Lot 1 ONLY for the Feb. 21 and 25 afternoon baseball games based on availability. The businesses at 405 (Lot 9) and 401 (Lot 10) Huger Street request that you begin parking at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays. Other business lots open at 5 p.m. on weekdays. RHP) 1-0, 1.80 ERA, 5.0 IP, 0 BB, 5 SO SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN The Wildcats won 1-of-3 games against Omaha in Arizona this past weekend. Northwestern won the series finale, 7-2, as Shawn Goosenberg went 3-for-4 with three RBI while Charlie Maxwell had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Tyler Uberstine earned the win on the mound, striking out five in five innings while allowing just four hits and a run. Goosenberg went 7-for-14 at the plate with five RBI on the weekend. SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN Carolina is 7-5 all-time against Northwestern but the two teams have not faced off since the 1995 season when Northwestern defeated the Gamecocks 13-5. All 12 games have been played in Columbia between 1986-95. Carolina won 2-of-3 games against Northwestern in the 1990 season, winning the final two contests by scores of 8-5 and 9-2. EARLY OUTBURST The Gamecocks have taken early leads in all four wins this season, scoring 25 runs in the first three innings, including a six-run first on Opening Day and a five-run first on the Saturday of the Holy Cross series. Carolina put up nine runs in the first three frames in the 14-3 win over Presbyterian and on the season, has outscored the competition, 38-7. SEC LEADERS As a team, Carolina is 10th in batting average, seventh in ERA and third in fielding percentage in the league. George Callil is tied for eighth with a .462 batting average, while Carmen Mlodzinski and Brannon Jordan are tied for the conference lead with a 0.00 ERA. Noah Campbell leads the SEC with seven stolen bases and Andrew Eyster is eighth in slugging percentage (.917). On the mound, Brett Kerry is tied for the league lead with 12 strikeouts. Jordan also has the lone complete game in the conference. GAMECOCKS ARE THIEVES ON THE BASES The Gamecocks are 15-for-17 on the base paths in the first four games, led by Noah Campbell's seven stolen bases. Campbell had three stolen bases in the season opener, the most by a Gamecock since Dom Thompson-Williams in 2016. Braylen Wimmer also is a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases. UP NEXT The Gamecocks return to action in the midweek as Carolina hosts North Florida on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. at Founders Park.
