Former Gamecock, DJ Swearinger, Challenges Defensive Backs

DJ Swearinger, former South Carolina defensive back from 2009-2012, put the current Gamecocks secondary on notice Tuesday evening.

He sent out this tweet, stating a challenge to the young DBs...

There have been SIX Gamecocks defensive backs drafted since 2009:

  • DJ Swearinger, 2013 (Round 2, Pick 57) - Houston Texans

  • Stephon Gilmore, 2012 (Round 1, Pick 10) - Buffalo Bills

  • Antonio Allen, 2012 (Round 7, Pick 242) - New York Jets

  • Chris Culliver, 2011 (Round 3, Pick 80) - San Francisco 49ers

  • Captain Munnerlyn, 2009 (Round 7, Pick 217) - Carolina Panthers

  • Stoney Woodson, 2009 (Round 7, Pick 238) - New York Giants

The 2017 team had what seemed like a good chance at getting a defensive back drafted in Jamarcus King who played in the 2018 Senior Bowl. But he was never selected.

Some recognizable names that weren't drafted between 2014 to now include Jamarcus King, Chris Lammons, DJ Smith, Al Harris Jr, Chaz Elder, Antoine Wilder, Chris Moody, TJ Gurley, Rico McWilliams, Jasper Sasser and Brison Williams.

The 2018 group of draft eligible Gamecocks has the best chance since 2013 to deliver an NFL draftee.

There are four defensive backs that I believe have a chance to get drafted in the 2019 NFL Draft, including, Rashad Fenton, Keisean Nixon, Steven Montac and graduate transfer from Texas A&M, Nick Harvey.
