Etienne Named ACC Offensive Player of the Week

by Staff Report @TheESP_

Clemson junior running back, Travis Etienne, got his 2019 Heisman campaign off to a great start on Thursday night vs Georgia Tech.

Other than a couple of negative yardage plays and a fumble early on in the first quarter, Etienne was nothing short of spectacular. He carried the ball 12 times for 207 yards and THREE touchdowns, including a 90-yard run which was Clemson's longest play since a 91-yard pass from Tajh Boyd to Sammy Watkins back in 2013. It also tied the longest run in school history with Banks McFadden (1939) and Buck George (1951). It was the longest run in the history of Memorial Stadium.

Etienne's previous career high for total rushing yards in a game was 203 against Syracuse in 2018. That tied the Clemson career record for 200+ yard games. He also became the first 200-yard rusher allowed by Georgia Tech since September 29, 2012 when Benny Cunningham of Middle Tennessee rushed for 217 yards.

The accolades don't stop there. This marked Etienne's 12th multi-touchdown game and ninth 100-yard rushing game. He is only the 11th player in Clemson history to rush for 2500+ yards in a career and only the third player to reach 40+ career rushing touchdowns.

His electric and record-breaking performance was good enough to earn him the ACC Offensive Player of the Week Award by The Draft Network.
