If ACC Football Coaches Were Avengers

by Austin Silvey @SilveyESP

We are nearing the end of summer and fall camps are just around the corner. But as we all know, the offseason can be a dull time in the world of sports and may occasionally lead to some “off-the-wall” content hitting the internet. This is one that crossed my mind for no apparent reason at all yet it was so captivating to me that i had to do it.

Earlier this year, Avengers Endgame hit theaters and has since became the highest grossing movie of all-time. Still fresh off of #ACCKickoff in Charlotte a couple weeks ago, I thought it might be fun to try and figure out which Avenger that ACC coaches would be. The results are quite interesting.

DABO SWINNEY - Clemson

CAPTAIN AMERICA

A natural born leader of men with the power to lead by example and move with words. He has unwavering willpower to succeed and put people he trusts in important positions to help him. A tireless worker that still understands the value of friendships and family. Delivers riveting quotes that inspire and force you to examine yourself on a deeper, more personal level.

PAT NARDUZZI - Pittsburgh

HULK

Liable to break into a psychotic level of rage at any moment. Has gotten calmer over time and manages to control demeanor more often than not but the monster still lives within. Zebras need be warned.

WILLIE TAGGART - Florida St

DR. STRANGE

Cryptic in how he delivers messages and statements (Lethal Simplicity, Do Something). Leaves people wondering what exactly he meant. Has an almost arrogant confidence in himself and what he is capable of.

“We have a plan, I think a pretty good plan." - Willie Taggart

“If I tell you what happens, it won’t happen.” - Dr. Strange

MANNY DIAZ - Miami

IRON MAN / TONY STARK

Mr. Bigshot on his big yacht with his rich colleagues. A charismatic figure filled with confidence and charm. Alcoholism may or may not be a weakness. Loves to party. Reckless. Loved by those around him.

GEOFF COLLINS - Georgia Tech

SPIDER-MAN

The embodiment of energy and enthusiasm. Lives in a big city. No problem getting motivated to work. A 'new-age' way of thinking. He supplements his abilities with technology (branding). A popular nemesis is Sandman. Not hard to keep entertained.

DINO BABERS - Syracuse

BLACK PANTHER

His country (team) resides under the cover of a dome. He leads with integrity and vigor. Rallies his troops with rousing speeches delivered with unbridled enthusiasm. Believes in himself and the quality of his troops more than anyone else. Blunt, yet timid. Influential figure.

STEVE ADDAZIO - Boston College

THOR

Just gods (guys) being dudes. Tough, physical nature.

DAVID CUTCLIFFE - Duke

NEBULA

This is a bit of a reach comparison but who else could represent Cutcliffe better currently than the character that so closely resembles a Blue Devil? And I'm assuming Nebula is older than we think.

SCOTT SATTERFIELD - Louisville

HAWKEYE

Doesn't have much to work with but has a couple of sharp tools in the repertoire. 'Arrows' he has are limited so he needs to make each one count. Has proven himself worthy on every stage he has been on to this point.

MACK BROWN - North Carolina

NICK FURY

The O.G. of the Avengers. He's a great recruiter. A natural born leader with a past full of accomplishments and success. His future is a bit blurry. Disappeared from the game for a while and just recently came back to it.

BRONCO MENDENHALL - Virginia

WAR MACHINE

No nonsense approach. Likeable character that has been overlooked at times. Puts in the work. Has gotten better at his craft over time. A dependable, team-centric guy with a stable head on his shoulders.

DAVE CLAWSON - Wake Forest

VISION

Displays consistent improvement with ability to learn and adapt to changing variables. Smart and intuitive. Has not yet tapped into full potential. Utilizes his available knowledge and talent to maximize success.

JUSTIN FUENTE - Virginia Tech

WINTER SOLDIER

Personality is a little cold and vanilla...Vanilla Ice you could say, but not the rapper. Effective at his job but wavers between good and bad too often. Inconsistent. Many thought he would be the next "Captain America" but I don’t believe he will be the one to fill those shoes. Has more to offer than what has been shown to this point.

DAVE DOEREN - NC State

ANT-MAN

Too focused on the little things...like laptops. He's an "electronics expert." Much more serviceable then he gets credit for at his craft. He provides practical guidance to the team that will help them in the professional world.
