In-State Quarterback Commits to the Gamecocks

South Carolina picked up a huge addition to their 2020 recruiting class, as four-star quarterback Luke Doty out of Myrtle Beach committed to the Gamecocks on Tuesday. Doty becomes South Carolina's fourth early pledge for the 2020 class, as Coach Will Muschamp and staff still work to put together the 2019 recruiting class.

Doty is a special, dual-threat quarterback talent who can extend plays with his legs, but can also squeeze the ball into tight windows with a very accurate arm. Doty measures in at 6'2"/190 pounds, and is ranked as highly as the 6th-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the nation by 247 Sports, and the #305 player overall.

Doty had already accumulated 19 offers as just a rising junior, including from high profile programs like Auburn, Florida State, Miami, and North Carolina. South Carolina offered Doty in August of 2017, and he had visited the school many times. Doty camped at many schools this past summer circuit, including South Carolina, along with North Carolina, Clemson, and Auburn.

The Gamecocks had been considered the favorite to land Doty for quite some time. Landing Doty is a big get for the Gamecocks, as securing the commitment of a quarterback early on in a recruiting class usually acts as a building block for other commits.

South Carolina's quarterback stable will be very impressive in the upcoming years with former four-star recruit Dakereon Joyner, 4-star 2019 recruit Ryan Hillinski, and eventually Doty battling it out for the starting position.
