The junior quarterback for the Myrtle Beach Seahawks, Luke Doty (6-2, 190lbs), committed to play collegiate football at the University of South Carolina this past Tuesday evening. He is rated as a four-star prospect currently by 247sports and is listed as the sixth best dual-threat quarterback for the 2020 recruiting class.
But before he gets to Columbia, he still has a junior and senior season to play in the Grand Strand of South Carolina.
As a sophomore, he split time playing wide receiver and quarterback for the Seahawks. He passed for almost 700 yards and passed for FIVE touchdowns to SEVEN interceptions. He also hauled in 35 passes for 391 yards and FIVE touchdowns along with 250 rushing yards and ONE rushing score.
Myrtle Beach head coach, Mickey Wilson, describes Doty as 'explosive' and 'dynamic.'
With me being a graduate of Conway High School (arch rival to Seahawks) as part of the 2010 class, I asked Doty, in an interview with the Evening Sports Page on Wednesday night, if he would be keeping the 'Victory Bell' home this season or if he was going to let Conway get it back.The Victory Bell is the trophy that the Tigers and Seahawks play for each season in the annual Horry County rivalry. The Seahawks won the game last year against the Tigers, 13-12. Conway was 4-0 before falling to Myrtle Beach and they will look to earn the trophy back on September 21 in 'The Backyard.'
