REPORTS: Texas working on future series with Georgia; Penn St or Clemson

According to reports by Chip Brown of Horns247, Texas is in the process of working out a home-and-home series with the Georgia Bulldogs within the next decade. Right now he is stating that it would most likely be in 2028 and 2029 due to the Longhorns having marquee matchups already set through 2027. It is also being reported that Texas has been in contact with Clemson and Penn State as well about potential home-and-home series in 2030-31. Word is that the Longhorns may be closer to deal with the Nittany Lions but nothing has been confirmed as of yet. Clemson and Texas have never played each other in football.

Dabo Swinney, head coach of Clemson, addressed media last Thursday discussing how the Tigers pride themselves on scheduling "big-time" opponents and the importance of playing games at home versus neutral sites.

It was also reported early on Tuesday by DawgPost that Georgia would be opening the 2022 season in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta against the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks and the Dawgs have only met one time before - back in 1977 Georgia won 27-16 at home in Athens, GA. The game is set for September 3, 2022.

Nothing is official as of yet in the potential Georgia/Texas matchup but it is at least in the works right now. It would be a huge matchup of passionate fanbases and football programs with rich tradition and history.

Until then, the Longhorns will have to face some big-name schools before they would presumably play the Bulldogs. In 2019-20, they have a home-and-home series with the LSU Tigers. Also in 2024 they play Michigan and in 2022 they play Ohio State.

Georgia is scheduled to play Notre Dame next season in Athens, Virginia in Atlanta in 2020, Oregon in Atlanta in 2022, and a home-and-home series with UCLA in 2025-26.
