On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, Northwestern wide receiver Ger-Cari Caldwell signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks over the Tennessee Volunteers. He also had some other offers from Baylor, East Carolina, Wake Forest, App State, Duke, and many others.
Here is what the Gamecocks are getting with their newest skill position commit...
Big frame with room to fill out and add weight; good flexibility & balance
Good release off the line but isn't a guy who is gonna create a lot of separation in his routes; pretty good footwork for bigger bodied receiver
Route Running is average; tendency to round off breaks in intermediate routes; excels in streaks and fades which is more of what he will be asked to do; slow getting to top of his routes -- takes a little time to build up speed; shows understanding of the fundamentals & nuances of route running -- can become much better with coaching and development
Lined up inside and outside in high school
Good 50/50 pass catcher; high-points the ball well; wins at the catch point; boxes out smaller defenders
Has really good long speed; big stride runner; runs away from defenses
Nice burst for size; shows ability to be explosive after the catch and in special teams
Great at snatching the ball out of the air; catches away from his body; soft hands, strong grip; big catch radius
High level concentration to make contested catches in traffic; makes tough catches through contact
Doesn't have the short area quickness/agility to make guys miss in space which isn't a surprise for player his size; change of direction ability is present but will be limited by faster athletes at college level; but his speed and fluid running style give him ability to run past defenders that take bad angles & navigate through gaps/openings seamlessly.
Gets north and south after the catch
Would like to see more in terms of blocking
High-ceiling potential
